What's new at City Timber

It's been a busy few months around the yard, and there's a handful of new things worth knowing about - from a safer treated timber, to something special if you're chasing reclaimed rimu. Here's what's new.

Cedar shingles, one at a time

Up until now, our Western red cedar shingles only came by the pack. Not anymore - we now sell them individually, so if you're patching an existing roof or wall, topping up a job, or just need a handful for a sample panel, you can buy exactly what you need and nothing more.

Leading the way on safer treated timber

A while back we wrote about the dark side of treated timber, and asked what you thought about Micronized Copper Azole (MCA) as a safer alternative to standard CCA treatment. You told us, loud and clear, that you wanted it and we listened.

Most of our treated timber - weatherboards, dressed and sawn boards, TG&V - is now MCA treated rather than CCA - far less toxic to cut, handle and dispose of, with the same H3.2 protection you need. As far as we can tell, that puts us out in front of the rest of Wellington on this, and we're proud of it.

Plywood by the half sheet

Don't need a whole sheet of ply? You're not alone. We now stock plywood in half sheets as well as full sheets, and as always, we can cut sheets down to your exact requirements - so you're not storing or hauling home more than the job actually calls for.

Reclaimed rimu

We've decided to dip our toes into reclaimed timber, and we've got some genuinely gorgeous ex 150x50mm reclaimed rimu heart stock in now. It's full of character, and ideal for furniture, benchtops and interior joinery.

As with our regular timber panels, we can turn it into a bespoke panel made to your exact dimensions. And because we're keen to see what you make with it: for any reclaimed rimu panel ordered before Christmas, we'll do the manufacturing for free - you just pay for the timber.
